New Co-ed Boy Scout Program Venturing Crew in Greenbelt by Isabelle Murray

On Thursday, August 12, Venturing Crew 746 kicked off their first meeting with 10 new scouts, establishing a new Boy Scouts of America program in Greenbelt. Venturing is an inclusive, co-ed program for young adults ages 14 through 20. Their programs aim to enable young adults to acquire new outdoor skills, build positive leadership qualities through leadership positions and also to have fun. Crew 746 will explore a variety of outdoor activities including, but not limited to, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking and kayaking. At meetings, they plan to prepare for trips and build the necessary skills to go on them, as well as enjoy a variety of games and other activities. Their first hiking trip is scheduled for Sunday, August 29. Meetings are held every other Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mowatt Memorial Methodist Church, 40 Ridge Road.
